Mykonos Airport Guide (JMK): Terminal, Map & Tips 2026

The expanded terminal, new 2026 lounges, security rules, interactive map and transport prices — in one place.

Mykonos Airport — officially Mykonos–Manto Mavrogenous Airport (JMK) — is a single-terminal island airport just 4 km (2.5 miles) from Mykonos Town (Chora). It is small but no longer cramped: a €25M expansion grew the terminal by about 50% to 13,350 m², and in summer 2026 it connects non-stop to 49 destinations in 21 countries. This guide covers the terminal layout (with an interactive map below), the new 2026 lounges, security and passport rules, and every way to get to town — with real prices.

The terminal: what changed and what to expect

The building has been upgraded twice in recent years: a major renovation in 2021, then the €25M expansion that added a new 2,000 m² arrivals zone — designed after the dovecotes of the Cyclades — plus extra gate space. Fraport's wider modernisation programme (including runway reconstruction works across several Greek regional airports) has been running since November 2025, so expect occasional construction activity around the airfield.

Inside, the terminal serves both international and domestic traffic through 16 check-in counters, 7 gates and 5 security lanes. Landside facilities are honest island-airport basics: an ATM (useful — most taxi drivers take cash only), a few cafés and shops, and limited seating; in low season some desks and outlets close entirely. There is no big shopping area, so don't plan to spend hours here. Use the interactive airport map below to orient yourself before you fly.

Lounges and fast track — new for 2026

This is the newest part of the JMK experience. Fraport Greece's VIP programme now includes the upscale Mykonian-style «Delos» lounge with fast-track escort to the aircraft, and Goldair Handling runs «Your Mykonian Luxury Lounge» at domestic departures on the 1st floor — open for the season from 1 May to 15 October 2026, with a business corner, Wi-Fi, Greek gastronomy and wines from Greek producers. Separately, several providers sell fast-track passage through security and passport control — worth the fee in the July–August departure waves.

Security and passport control

Two rules surprise travellers in 2026. First, the 100ml liquids limit still applies in Greece: while some EU airports with new CT scanners have scrapped it, Athens expects its scanners around 2027 and a small regional airport like Mykonos later still — so pack liquids the old way. Second, passport control at JMK only happens if Mykonos is your first point of entry into the Schengen Area (for example a direct UK charter): that is where the EU's biometric EES applies, with a current exemption for UK passport holders at Greek borders — the details, including the ETIAS timeline, are in our EES and passport control guide. Arriving via Athens or another Schengen hub? You cleared the border there.

Getting to and from the airport

The island has only ~30–35 licensed taxis, which shapes everything about leaving the airport in summer:

OptionCost (2026)Notes
Pre-booked transfer~€38–45Driver meets you in arrivals — most reliable in peak season
Taxi from the rank~€17–25 + €2.85 airport feeCash only; 30–60 min waits in July–August
KTEL bus~€2–3To Fabrika station; cheap, light luggage only
Rental car~€41/day (mini)Avance, AVIS–Budget, Hertz and Sixt desks in arrivals

Full pricing maths, including night surcharges and luggage fees, is in the transfer cost breakdown. Driving in? Short- and long-stay parking sits right by the terminal — easier than circling the forecourt when meeting an arrival.

Flights from JMK

Summer 2026 brings the densest network yet — 49 destinations including new Kuwait Airways and ITA Rome routes — while winter shrinks to the ~40-minute Athens lifeline. The full route map, seasonality and booking tactics are in our flights guide; for today's traffic check live arrivals and departures, and see which airlines fly here.

Timing your visit: peak waves and winter mode

The airport has a daily rhythm worth knowing. In summer, landing waves cluster in the late morning and late afternoon — exactly when the baggage hall, the taxi rank and the security lanes are at their worst. Departing in those windows in July or August? Arrive 2–3 hours early; the expanded terminal absorbs crowds better than before, but five security lanes can still back up when several flights board at once. Meeting someone? A flight shown as «landed» needs another 15–20 minutes before passengers reach the forecourt, so time your drive accordingly.

From November to March the airport switches to winter mode: terminal hours shrink, several cafés and desks close, and almost all traffic is the Athens link. If you fly off-season, confirm your specific flight still operates before heading out, and pre-arrange transport — neither the taxi rank nor the bus runs at summer frequency.

Layover, hotels and the town next door

A layover at JMK is short on entertainment — but Chora is 10 minutes away, so with 4+ hours you can realistically see the windmills and be back; our layover guide covers the timing. Staying close to a morning flight makes sense too: hotels near the airport range from budget rooms to upscale villas, and at 4 km from town you sacrifice little.

Mykonos Airport FAQ

How big is Mykonos Airport?
It is a single-terminal island airport, expanded by about 50% to 13,350 m² in a €25M project. The terminal has 16 check-in counters, 7 departure gates and 5 security lanes, and in summer 2026 serves non-stop flights to 49 destinations in 21 countries.
Does the 100ml liquids rule still apply at Mykonos Airport?
Yes. Greece keeps the 100ml hand-luggage liquids limit in 2026. Some EU airports with new CT scanners have dropped it, but Athens expects its scanners around 2027 and Mykonos, as a small regional airport, later — so pack liquids in containers of 100ml or less.
Is there a lounge at Mykonos Airport?
Yes, two as of 2026: the Mykonian-style «Delos» lounge within Fraport's VIP services (with fast-track to the aircraft), and Goldair Handling's «Your Mykonian Luxury Lounge» at domestic departures on the 1st floor, open seasonally from 1 May to 15 October 2026.
How far is Mykonos Airport from Mykonos Town?
About 4 km (2.5 miles) — an 8–12 minute drive. A pre-booked transfer costs ~€38–45, a taxi ~€17–25 plus a €2.85 airport fee (cash only), and the KTEL bus ~€2–3 to Fabrika station.
Is there passport control at Mykonos Airport?
Only if Mykonos is your first point of entry into the Schengen Area, such as on a direct flight from the UK — that is where the EU's biometric EES applies (with a current exemption for UK passport holders at Greek borders). If you connect through Athens or another Schengen hub, border checks happen there.
