Mykonos Airport (JMK) has one public bus line to town and one to the port, and both stop for the night at 22:15. The next departure from the airport is at 09:15. Everything that lands in that eleven-hour gap, and everyone who needs to be at the terminal for a dawn flight, depends on the same small pool of licensed taxis or on a driver booked in advance. This page is about Mykonos Airport at night, and it lists what actually runs at each hour: the bus times in force this season, the taxi tariff that switches at midnight, whether the building itself stays open, what a ferry can and cannot do for you after dark, and the winter days of 2026 and 2027 when nothing flies at all.

The short answer, hour by hour
Read the row for the time your flight lands or leaves. "Rank" means the taxi rank outside the arrivals exit; "transfer" means a pre-booked driver who meets the flight.

The bus: 09:15 to 22:15 and nothing in between
KTEL Mykonos runs two lines from the airport stop. Airport to Fabrika (the bus station on the south side of Mykonos Town) leaves hourly at quarter past, 09:15 to 22:15, and returns from Fabrika hourly at the top of the hour, 09:00 to 22:00. Airport to the New Port at Tourlos leaves at 09:15 and hourly to 18:15, then 21:15 and 22:15; the return from the New Port is 09:30 to 18:30, then 21:30 and 22:30. Those are the summer 2026 timetables in force at the time of checking; the winter service is shorter and is reissued each season, and the fare is a few euros paid on board. Two practical consequences. A flight scheduled to land at 21:30 can make the 22:15 bus only if it is on time and you have no checked bags: JMK needs 15 to 20 minutes after "landed" before passengers reach the hall, and bags add another 15 to 30 minutes in season. Anything landing after 22:00 should be planned as a taxi or transfer from the start. And in the morning, the first bus reaches the airport at about 09:30 (Fabrika 09:00 departure) or 09:55 (New Port 09:30), which is after the check-in deadline of every early flight.
Taxis after dark: what changes at midnight
The island is served by roughly 30 to 35 licensed taxis, and Fraport Greece places the rank outside the arrivals side of the terminal. Late in the evening the rank empties as soon as one full flight has been cleared, and there is no fleet held back for the night. You have three ways to get a car: wait at the rank and share if you can, phone a radio taxi (+30 22890 23700 or +30 22890 22400, a call-out fee applies), or pre-book a transfer before you fly.
The fare is metered and the meter does two things at night. Between 00:00 and 05:00 the per-kilometre rate switches from €0.90 (Tariff 1) to €1.25 (Tariff 2). And every ride starting at the airport adds a €4 airport pick-up charge, raised from €2.85 by the national tariff decision of 18 September 2026. Luggage over 10 kg is €0.40 a piece. In practice a daytime run to Mykonos Town is about €17 to €25, the New Port about €20, and after midnight budget roughly €5 more on the same routes. A pre-booked transfer costs several times the taxi fare for the same 4 to 6 km, and late at night that premium buys the only thing that matters: a named driver waiting for your flight number, who stays if the flight is late. Is the terminal open at night?
Yes, as a building. Fraport Greece lists the terminal and airport operating hours for JMK as every day, 00:00 to 23:59, and the summer schedule includes arrivals late in the evening. What that does not mean is that the airport is staffed and stocked round the clock. Cafés, the duty-free shop and the car-rental desks keep hours tied to the flight schedule; the Goldair lounge is a summer facility (1 May to 15 October) and is airside, so it is no use once you have collected your bags. Travellers' accounts disagree about how much seating is left landside once the last departure has gone, so treat the terminal as a place you can wait for a car, not as a place to spend the night. If you hold a non-EU passport and fly in directly from outside the Schengen Area, the Entry/Exit System check (fingerprints and a photo on first entry) happens at JMK regardless of the hour, and a late arrival with two flights on the ground at once is exactly when the queue is longest. No ferry tonight: where the night goes
Ferries from the New Port to the neighbouring islands are a daytime and early-evening business. Which routes keep a late sailing changes from season to season and operator to operator, but nothing leaves Tourlos in the middle of the night, and a flight landing after 19:00 should be planned as a night on Mykonos and a morning boat, as we set out in the same-day flight-and-ferry guide. Make sure the morning ferry you then book leaves from the New Port, not the Old Port.
For that night the sensible choices are a room within walking distance of the New Port, a room in Mykonos Town near Fabrika if you will use the bus in the morning, or one of the properties near the airport that includes a pick-up. The hotels near the airport page compares them; a hotel that collects you from the airport at midnight is the one case where its price is easy to justify. Do not book the cheapest bed on the far side of the island for a late landing: the taxi to reach it will cost more than the saving, if you find one.
Flying out before dawn
Early departures exist all year: the first flights to Athens, and in summer to several European cities, leave in the early morning, before the island's transport has woken up. The bus cannot get you there: the first arrival at the airport is around 09:30. So the question is only who drives you and when you leave.
Work backwards from the airline's rules. Most carriers ask you to be at the airport two hours before a European departure, and bag drop typically closes 40 to 60 minutes before the flight; for a direct departure to the UK or another non-Schengen country the EES exit check adds a queue, and Athens Airport now advises 2.5 hours for such flights, which is a reasonable rule for Mykonos in high season too. Out of Mykonos Town the drive is 10 to 15 minutes, from Ornos or Platis Gialos about the same, from Ano Mera or the north coast 20 to 30 minutes. That puts a 06:30 departure at a pick-up between 04:00 and 04:30, when the night tariff still applies (until 05:00) and the rank is empty.
- Order the car the evening before, by phone to a radio taxi or through a transfer booking, with the flight number so the driver knows the deadline. A taxi hailed at 04:00 is luck, not a plan.
- If your hotel offers an airport run, confirm the departure time with reception in writing the night before, and ask what happens if the driver does not show.
- Consider sleeping near the airport for a flight before 07:00; the walk or two-minute taxi removes the single point of failure.
- Do not count on breakfast at the terminal. Outlets open with the first flights, not before them; have water and something to eat with you.
If the early flight is the first leg of a connection through Athens, note that the Athens link is the one route that runs all year, but it is also the one most affected by the winter works below.
Winter: fewer flights, one day a week with none
Between roughly November and March the direct international flights stop and JMK runs on the 40-minute Athens shuttle plus a handful of domestic services; taxis are fewer, the bus is minimal, and terminal outlets keep short hours around those flights. What stays open is in the winter guide.
New for winter 2026/27: Fraport Greece has announced that the JMK runway will be reconstructed, and that for 24 hours every Thursday from 19 November 2026 to 18 March 2027 (00:01 to 23:59 local time) all commercial and private flights to and from the airport are suspended. The exceptions are 22, 24 and 31 December 2026 and 5 and 7 January 2027, when Thursday flights operate. If you are travelling in that window, a Wednesday-night or Thursday-morning departure does not exist: move to Wednesday or Friday, or take the ferry to Rafina or Piraeus, which sails year-round. Check the announcement on the airport's site before booking, as works programmes change.
